Ah, you’re painting a perfect picture of adventure and tropical wonder! Sri Lanka’s diverse landscapes and thrilling activities are truly mesmerizing. Whether it’s spotting leopards in Wilpattu National Park, riding the rapids of the Kelani River, or exploring the rare ecosystems of Sinharaja Rainforest, there’s no shortage of excitement and natural beauty. The unique blend of adrenaline-filled expeditions and serene encounters with nature makes it all the more tempting.
The ideal time to visit Sri Lanka for these experiences is generally during the dry season. For most of the country, this means November to April, which offers pleasant weather and optimal conditions for outdoor activities like safari, rafting, and rainforest explorations. However, the east coast, including marine adventures like whale watching, is best visited between May and September due to its favorable weather.

A testimony to the inventiveness of the ancient civilizations of the land, the once impenetrable stronghold of King Kassapa, ‘Sihagiri’ or Lion’s Rock as it was called then, is considered to be the 8th wonder of the world today. The feats of artistry, architecture and engineering at Sigiriya continue to impress visitors with their utter magnificence, even thousands of years on. Intricately landscaped pleasure gardens sprawl out below the rock, giant lion paws hewn in stone mark the entrance to the fortress at its foot and a highly polished mirror wall still carries the scrawled writings of ancient poets. A somewhat treacherous climb up the rock is well worth it to see the impressive ruins of a once glorious city at the summit – 370m high. And the 360-degree view from the top is equally astounding.

Breakfast, leave for Nuwara Eliya. Approx.: 02 hour 30 minutes
On the way visit the Tea Factory Planation to witness the process how the world-famous Ceylon Tea is being made.
Hidden away high in the central mountains at an altitude of over 6000 feet, Nuwara Eliya is the resort capital of the hills – and a world away from the hot tropical beach atmosphere of the coast, not just in climate but in its character too. The British planters who flocked to the region to grow tea in the mid-19th century developed Nuwara Eliya as their summer retreat. Created as an exact replica of an English town it is often called ‘Little England’; and with its primarily colonial architecture, the stately Victoria Park, golf course, racing track, boating lake and grand period style hotels – and the cold, frequent showers of rain adding to the illusion, you could well be in an old English country town. This is the heart of the tea country, and is also a good base for excursions to discover other attractions of the hills.
Approx.: 03 – 04 hours
Enjoy a train journey from Nanu Oya to Ella while enjoying the scenic view through the hill country overlooking the tea plantations. (Afternoon train)

While the village itself may not offer much in the way of attractions the locality certainly makes up for it. The majestic Ella rock looming over the village provides an arduous but rewarding hike – and the views from the top are well worth the effort. The beautiful Ravana Ella waterfall is an impressive cascade – the widest in Sri Lanka, is also a sight not to miss. The nearby caves are steeped in legend according to which, the ancient King Ravana held the Indian princess Seetha captive in them.

Also known as the Galle Ramparts, the Galle Fort is a historically and archaeological rich site which was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1988.
Opened in 2010 The National Maritime Archaeology Museum is situated within the sturdy walls of the Galle Fort. The first of its kind in Sri Lanka, it was established in a Dutch warehouse dating back to 1671. The Maritime Museum was initially opened to the public in 1992.
The Galle Lighthouse is an onshore lighthouse located in the historical southern town of Galle. Dating back to 1848, this is the oldest lighthouse station in the country. Located within the walls of the historical Galle Fort, the Galle Lighthouse is strategically positioned at the Southern end of the promontory giving it the best possible view of any ships entering the Galle Harbor.
